Dataran Batu Pahat

Dataran Batu Pahat is the landmark of Batu Pahat. It is also known as the plaza of Batu Pahat. The symbol is the statue of the Batu and Pahat, where it has its meaning in Malay.

The name of Batu Pahat comes from the Malay language, where ‘batu’ means the rock and ‘pahat’ means the chisel. From the significant statue we can see a pair of hands using a chisel to tap on the rock. According to the history, the origin of the name of Batu Pahat comes from a well at the Minyak Beku, which is located in Batu Pahat. Simply, during the period where the Siamese attacked Malacca, the Siamese stopped over Minyak Beku after retreating and they chiseled a big rock to obtain fresh water. This forms the whole district named Batu Pahat.

Nowadays, the Dataran Batu Pahat has become a place where people spend their leisure time with family and friends. Several activities are organized at here annually such as the New Year countdown, the Lunar Chinese New Year procession, Malaysia Independence Day parade and many more. As it has a very wide open space and normally a temporary stage will be set up in the middle of the plaza.

It has a very nice view during night time where it is decorated with kinds of lightings and it was being beautified last month. Almost every night time, there are families bring along their children to gather and play around here.

The bubble activity is one the most popular games among the children here. They will compete among each other to form the biggest bubble. At the same time, these kids make new friends which are a lot precious where they know each other face-to-face and are away from electronic devices. As nowadays people rely on their smartphones or laptops almost all the time and their communication in reality is getting lesser and lesser. While this is a great opportunity where people gets to talk and communicate with each other without neglecting the human feelings around us.

Besides, there is a large field right beside the Dataran Batu Pahat. It is big enough for people to play football here. There are parents that like to play the mini football together with their children at here. It is a nice activity where parents are able to cultivate the parent-child relationships by spending time with their children after the whole working day.

As it is an open area so anyone can use the space around here as long as the activities are legal. Sometimes, you are able to see people with their music band having their practice session here to prepare for their upcoming shows. There are also people that take their hobby to provide volunteer performances to the audience here for entertainment purpose.

Other than football games, some of the schools that have insufficient spaces within the school area will also run their sports day at the Stadium Batu Pahat.
