Gunung Lambak

Kluang is a district located in Johor while the Gunung Lambak is one of the symbols of Kluang, Johor. It is a recreational forest where you can have activities such as mountain climbing, picnic, having fun at the water park and enjoy scenery of the nature there.

It is like a combination of two mountains so there are two summits which are the North Hill and the South Hill. Therefore, there are two different pathways for you to choose. Besides, you are able to choose whether you prefer the concrete path or the 100% jungle track but both paths are having the same starting point. If you are not familiar with the route of jungle track, then you are not encouraged to explore it alone.

As the first attempt to Gunung Lambak, we have chosen to climb the North Hill and challenge the 100% jungle track.

This is the big signboard of Gunung Lambak at the middle hill. At the middle hill, you can see people doing some stretching exercises and the elderlies chit-chatting or playing chess around here as there are stone tables and chairs available here.

It is also being beautified with nice decorations around the nature environment here such as the ponds.

It is quite challenging along the whole journey as it is 100% jungle track and we were not practiced to climb this kind of pathways. Some of the land are loosening and is slippery after the overnight rain, so we have to step on the firm land or tree roots in order to go ahead. As it is a nature hill, the land is rugged. Sometimes it is even hard to step up to the land that exceeds your height is able to reach.

For safety purpose, there are firm ropes for the climbers along the way where there are high slopes. We have to leverage on the ropes to move on as it is extremely dangerous if you did not rely on the ropes where gravity will cause to fall and roll down from the hill.

However, the view along the way is nice and we can feel the atmosphere of nature and the natural wind and air that you have no chances to get from developed town area.

We took nearly 2 hours to reach to the top of the North Hill. There is a signboard at the peak showing that Gunung Lambak has a height of 510m which equals to 1673ft from the sea level.

The scenery at the top of the hill is amazed where you are able to enjoy the outlook of Kluang and found everything buildings are to be seemed that small from the height.

There are lots of monkeys gathered around at the top of the forest. Some of the monkeys are big and strong and you should be aware if you have food with you.

We took another route to go down from the hill and we passed by a hanging bridge which is one of the significant features at the Gunung Lambak. Finally we were back to the starting point by spending around 3 and half hours for the whole journey. It is a nice experience where you must give a try when visit to Kluang.

Location: Jalan Hutan Lipur, Kampung Dato Abdul Rahman Yassin, 86000 Kluang, Johor Darul Ta’zim.

Lim Sz Chong Su Temple (天后宫妈祖庙)

If you would like to pray for blessing, the Lim Sz Chong Su Temple is one of the well-known temples in Batu Pahat. The Lim Sz Chong Su Temple is also known as the ‘Ma Zor Keng’ which is from the pronunciation of Hokkien and it is written as 妈祖庙 in Mandarin. ‘Ma Zor’ is one of the Gods in Buddhist and ‘Keng’ means the temple in Hokkien.

Although it is a small temple, but it is very popular and many people from outstations will visit here. This temple has been operating since the year of 1932 which lasts for 85 years until today. Every late night of the Lunar Chinese New Year’s Eve, this temple will be fully occupied where people will be waiting for 12am of the New Year’s first day where we called that Chor 1 (大年初一) to be the first person that stick the incense stick onto the censer. This custom is handed down from generation to generation where people believe that the first person that sticks the incense onto the censer will be blessed.

People believe this ‘Ma Zor Keng’ is very efficacious with things you pray for. Therefore, normally when the important exams are around the corner, many parents will bring their children to pray at this temple. We have the custom here which is to bend down and walk through the ‘tunnel’ under the cabinet that places the Gods statues for three rounds and you will be blessed.

This is the counter that sells joss paper, incense sticks, joss candles and so on. The first thing here is that you are suggested to buy anyone of these for prayer use however it isn’t a must to buy, it depends on individual. The simplest will be the incense stick only and all these cost only few Ringgits for each.

Then you will have to pray using the incense sticks according to the sequence there. Normally, people will speak from the bottom of heart on what they want to pray for to the God and believe that God will be able to know what we pray for.

If you did buy the joss paper, then you will have to burn it at the burner after praying with the incense sticks. There is a huge burner provided.

After all the prayer had done, you can have a visit at the wish pond with lots of tortoises in it. To make a wish, what you need is a coin regardless the amount, and you make a wish towards the pond and lastly toss the coin into the gold ingot at the center.

Besides, this is the place where they place the ancestors memorial tablets of the ‘Lim Sz’ which means the ancestors of people with the surname of ‘Lim’ or in Mandarin. As this temple is actually belongs to the ‘Lim Sz’ where it called the Lim Sz Chong Su Temple.

Location: No. 3, Jalan Fatimah, 83000 Batu Pahat, Johor, Johor, Malaysia.

It is open for people to visit every day from 7am to 9pm. While every 1st and 15th day of the month according to the Lunar calendar, it will open start from 6am to 9pm.

However, the admin office for the temple operates from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
